What you will learn

  • Understanding your camera settings for Nightscape photography

  • Setting up your camera settings, tripod and focusing at night

  • Learn about how to find the Milky Way and other astronomical objects.

  • Nightscape Landscape compositions

  • Using apps to support your astrophotography

  • Understanding your camera settings when using a star tracker.

  • Learn how to find the Milky Way and other astronomical objects with your camera or star tracker.

  • Correct settings for your star tracker

  • Polar Alignment

  • Multi Layer Panorama


Itinerary

  • Meet at 5:00 pm at the advised pre location in the confirmation email.

  • Group discussion of the evening's plans to ensure everyone has the correct camera settings before getting dark.

  • Head out together to start the night’s adventure.

  • Scout location for the best compositions.

  • Bonus - Private group post online editing session


What to bring

  • Digital DSLR or Mirrorless camera.

  • Lens, preferably your widest and fastest lens ( 10-24mm ) ( f2.8-f4 or faster ) ( 24-100mm for the Moon)

  • Spare Batteries ( Cold nights can drain lithium batteries fast )

  • Tripod with Ball Head

  • Intervalometer or cable release. Unless camera has an internal feature.

  • Star Tracker - Optional

  • Headlamp with red light option ( Red light is critical for dark adaptation )

  • Torch ( Used when scouting locations )

  • Sturdy shoes for walking

  • Warm clothing ( The warmer you are the more comfortable you will be capturing the night sky )

  • Snacks and beverages

Hire - There’s an option to try before you buy and hire equipment on the night.

All workshops are subject to weather conditions and can be cancelled due to severe weather conditions beyond our control. In the event of a cancellation due to severe weather, a voucher will be given to attend an alternative workshop.
